lyrics

You won’t remember the first time we met. I was 15, scrawny, just some brace-faced kid, and you - you were so mysterious. I was blown away, and I’ve never been the same since.

It was the first time I saw your band, that last summer before you asked Maria to count you in. Played your hearts out for a tiny crowd, then you said “If you wanna be heard, girl you better be loud.”

So pretty boy on the stage, go on and sing me a song. Steal my heart, keep me dancing all night long, cuz this rush is so sweet. Please stop these clocks tonight. You’re taking over the room while I’m down here on the floor. Flash me a smile I’ll return until my cheeks are sore. You know you’re everything to us tonight.

So strange to think you were just a kid then, now some big shot, selling out arenas with famous friends… but I’ll always see the way I did then.

Years later, though so much has changed, you still wear that half smile that drives those teenage hearts insane. It takes me back to that day and it’s like I’m 15.

You’re just a boy on the stage, but you’re singing my song. You’ve got my heart and it feels so right that it must be wrong. Nothing in the world will stop these clocks tonight. Later on in my room, I’ll think of you from my floor, and write about how you made me dream of something more. You know you’re everything to me tonight.
